About Emily Sullivan

she/her/hers

Hi, I’m Emily. I'm a late-diagnosed autistic woman and behavioral health professional for 15 years, working primarily with autistic children and adults. After about a year of Googling questions related to loud sounds, not being able to hear what someone was saying when I looked into their eyes, dizziness from busy locations, the same answer kept coming up – autism. In 2024, at 35 years old, I was officially diagnosed. It was validating and a bit overwhelming. Why hadn’t anyone noticed? Why had I spent so long adapting, masking, and bending myself into what others wanted me to be?

From my first interaction with an autistic child as an intern, I knew those were the people I wanted to work with. Their joys made sense to me. Their frustrations made sense to me. They made sense to me. I felt a strong connection. Looking back at it with my recent diagnosis, it now makes sense. Professionally, I’ve spent years working in behavioral health, mainly within Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). I know this field is loaded with controversy and I totally understand why. ABA has a painful history, with many autistic individuals experiencing dehumanizing and harmful treatment at the hands of practitioners who prioritized compliance over connection – often causing real harm.

I've used these tools myself – not to become someone I'm not, but to work through real-life challenges on my terms. Life after undergrad was filled with extra hurdles and I leaned on behavioral principles to help me navigate them. Whether it was building the courage to drive on the highway, getting more comfortable attending social gatherings with few people I knew, or learning how to use my time more efficiently, these tools expanded my capacity, and ultimately, my world.

That being said, the way I use these tools is fundamentally different from the history they’ve been built upon. I focus on consent and values of the client with their autonomy, not compliance, directing us. These approaches work, when they’re used ethically and supportively. That’s what I bring to the table – science-backed support, grounded in my own lived experience. My goal isn’t to change people to fit neurotypical expectations. My goal is to help people clarify their own values, unmask and build lives that align with those so they can be their truest selves.

About Bridgett Ficher

she/her/hers

Hello, my name is Bridgett and I have ADHD -inattentive presentation. I have worked within the realm of behavioral health for over a decade, collaborating with individuals across the lifespan to develop greater independence. At the ripe old age of 33 years old I searched for confirmation to a diagnosis that I had suspected throughout my life; but never had the courage to pursue testing until that time. The woman who had conducted my intake assessment shared with me that it was common for a mother of two to hit a wall…to not be able to manage all of life’s daily demands. And there it was...yet another shout out of how I could not handle life.

When you see the world differently, you see what others miss. Like being so enamored with the colorful, intricate details of ornaments in a Christmas store that you don’t hear your partner calling your name from two feet away (true story). Or how to create an impromptu song about any mundane job you are doing to inject some vitality into the task, such as singing to your toddler how everyone has got to have lotion (to the tune of “For the Love of Money” by the O’Jay’s).

According to Plato, “Necessity is the mother of all invention”, and this could not be more true for how we neurodivergent thinkers navigate this world. Everyday systems were not designed for our minds so we need to create systems that work for us. However, the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) are actionable methods for all brains. 🧠. My goal here is to help you leverage these principals to engineer the life you envision for yourself. And fortunately for us neurodivergent folks, we are all natural born innovators. So let’s invent the future you want together! Welcome to the club! 💓🤗
